EVA Lab develops courses, workshops, public presentations and experimental video game formats that bring together artistic practice, research and collaboration. The lab operates within the educational and artistic research environment of the Estonian Academy of Arts and grows through collaboration between departments, students, artists, researchers and partner organisations.

Ääniheli
Ääniheli is a research-based artistic experiment in spatial sound and ambient music. In the first edition, visitors can explore spatial sound fields and create their own multidimensional mix of the track “Volition” by 𝑓ourest.

DUAL TIMER
Dual Timer is an application developed through personal research for tracking time, attention and the creative process. It helps make work, focus, breaks and creative rhythms more visible, supporting a slow and self-reflective way of working.

The Plant Walker
A slow and meditative walking game that explores psychological well-being, slowness and presence from the perspective of the artistic researcher.

I’M NOT PLAYING GAMES, I SWEAR
New Media Department, present pop-up exhibition in a new gallery space at the National Library of Estonia.

GODOT game making for beginners
The workshop introduced students to the basics of the Godot game engine through the lens of contemporary art, focusing on creating original interactive game environments and integrating them into their own artistic practices.

EVA Lab: Small Lives

ARS ELECTRONICA
Systems of Unrest: Estonian and Finnish Art Students Respond to Contemporary Anxieties
For the first time, the Estonian Academy of Arts and Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture join forces at Ars Electronica Festival 2025, presenting “Systems of Unrest” in the Campus exhibition area from September 3-7 in Linz, Austria.

In the exhibition Mängu mateeria / The Matter of Play at ARS Showroom, artists Martin Buschmann and Reimo Võsa-Tangsoo revisit themes that have long been central to their artistic practices.

Three Drops of Blood
Three Drops of Blood was an EKA TASE satellite exhibition at Kalamaja Museum, based on materials from an unfinished 1980s video game found in the Estonian National Archives. Guided by Camille Laurelli, EKA students created new visual interpretations based on the game’s sketches, photographs and notebooks.

Punane Laine
Punane Laine was a VIA Lab project in which students from the Estonian Academy of Arts researched archive materials from an unfinished 1980s Estonian video game found in the Estonian National Archives. The sketches and objects later entered the LVLup! Videogame Museum collection and were presented by the students as a research-based display at the Estonian Museum of Applied Art and Design.
